Hello and welcome back to the Fit Soul Podcast. My name is Amy Ramsey, I am your sister, I'm a follower of Jesus Christ and I'm also a certified high-performance coach and integrative nutrition health coach all the things. But today I'm coming to you and I want to share with you some things that will help you with your mindset. So many people struggle with negative thinking and it kind of just going or going back to default patterns instead of being able to move forward at the capacity that they want to and or reach the goals that they're trying to reach. And I just got I'm hot fresh off of a coaching call with my Walkworthy mentorship and they just had some breakthrough moments and I want to share just a framework that I just shared with them. Okay, as I am recording this podcast, at the time I'm recording this podcast, I'm getting ready for my first ever live event. It's called the Worthy Woman Summit and it has been such a joy and so much fun to plan this event. We've been working on it for about six months now, so it's a big deal and just getting even ready, my mind ready and wrapped around something that's big and new and different, I had to do this same work. The reality is is that our thoughts are things and that a large part of our thoughts some say up to 80% of our thoughts are automatically a little bit negative. So, for us to be able to understand how important it is to do the work to become more resilient in our thinking, to hardwire our brains for success so we can be everything that God wants us to be, that negative thinking and the negative bias, bias, bias, bias there's my Louisiana coming out is um. It doesn't need to hold us back anymore. It doesn't need to hold us back anymore when you understand how you can, what you can do to help yourself not to fall into those patterns and or how to overcome them, is everything, and that's what I want to share with you today. So I'm just going to jump right in to this. Content and content and um. I call this the for our thought renewal. Now, in my walkworthy mentorship, we go over this. There's a whole, an absolute module built out with all sorts of resources to help overcome um and help build new neural pathways. Basically, basically.

Speaker 1:

So what I love to do is, just before I even do that, before we talk about the neuroscience of it, it's important that you understand who you are Like when believers start to stand into their spiritual inheritance and understand that we're called to go walk worthy of our life. This requires moral courage, this requires personal integrity. This requires this idea of leaning into maturity, spiritual maturity, so that we can be able to do what God wants us to do here on this earth. And our thoughts are things, so our thoughts are guiding us, and if we allow them to just run automatically and into a default mode, we'll never get to that real, abundant, that thriving place that Jesus wants for us.

Speaker 1:

I used to be the stuckest of stuckest of stuckest persons ever, so I can speak to this. And I can speak to this process because of what I was stuck in. I was stuck in some terrible thoughts, patterns that were just filled with unworthiness, that were filled with guilt and shame, that were filled with condemnation, and I had bought into lies of the enemy, and it caused me. I have some regret over how much time that cost me, and that's why I'm so passionate to share with you, number one, the reason why I want you to do this process because I believe that God has something significant in store for you when you step into who he says that you are who you already are in him.

Speaker 1:

We're created in Christ Jesus we are. We're a custom creation, handmade from heaven, and so when we have a low version of how he's created us not I'm not saying that we should be humble, we should strive to be very humble. That is part of walking worthy. But when there's this false humility of, oh, I'm just nothing, it's like are you saying that about God's creation? Because I don't think he just makes nothing. Well, we can look at ourselves and see that there is significance inside of me, because I am made in God's image, I am his workmanship and I'm creative for purpose. And because of that, because of my love for God, because I know that I want to steward my time, my gifts, my talents here on this earth well, I want to do everything I can for him and his glory. Like it's from this place of gratitude for all that he's given me and all that he's done for me that I want to show up in my life fully engaged, fully intentional, fully purposeful.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so that is the premise of why this is so important for you to do this work. I'm going to teach you a framework. I'm going to go through this kind of quickly, but I have a freebie If you'll look down in the show notes of some affirmations and a few other tools and resources that can help you with this process. So here's the thing when you step into this type of work with a faith-filled mindset, it will help to transform your thinking. It'll help you to break free from negative patterns. It'll help you to stop your stinking thinking and the things that are causing you to shrink or hide back or even self-promote or self-protect, like all of the things that we're trying to not do in our lives. Can I get an amen? Like all of the things that we're trying to not do in our lives? Can I get an amen so we can walk in God's truth? This is liberating freedoms, and so your thoughts are things. As a man thinketh and believes in his heart, so he is, so your thoughts are things. This is a scriptural premise that God's been saying all along. And so how important is it for you to think about your thoughts?

Speaker 1:

The first part of this I call this the, for our thought renewal process is to recognize it's time that you really think about what you're thinking about and identify the thoughts that are holding you back, identify the struggles that you're having your mindset matters. It matters for your faith to grow your faith. It matters for your health and wellness. It matters for every habit, everything that you do in your daily life. Your thoughts are going to shape your outcomes, and so the first part of being able to move forward in this area is you've got to recognize and bring awareness to the subconscious thought patterns. You have to identify the limiting beliefs and the strongholds that are holding you back. This takes some work. Take you a little notebook around and just start to write out all of the negative thoughts that you're thinking. As they come up, you'll be shocked, and then you'll start to see patterns of the negative thinking. I was shocked, shocked, shocked. The negative thinking. I was shocked, shocked, shocked. The first time I ever did this.

Speaker 1:

Now, this, this, this piece, this first piece, is crucial. You've got to before you can correct what you're thinking and get to that, to to a higher level thinking to more um, godly thoughts, more positive thoughts. You've got to know what you're thinking right now and the more it's kind of like have you ever done a closet clean out? And you're like, oh, I'm gonna, I'm gonna go in there and clean up my closet real quick and like it took way more than you ever thought. You thought you were going to be in there. You had you could do that in two hours and here you are, two weeks later still working on it, like it was just. It opened up a Pandora's box.

Speaker 1:

You might find that in this process, as you are learning to recognize the negative thoughts and they might lead to others, and during this process, the more you can identify, the better. Don't feel bad about yourself Like this is a good thing. You can't correct what you're not aware of. So what this does is it brings your subconscious to the conscious mind. It brings your unawareness and autopilot thoughts to um, to a place of awareness. Okay, recognize step number one. Step number two and I told you I'm going through this quickly, but I just want to kind of give you a framework Step number two is to refute. I like this word. I've played around with different words in this framework, so this is where we're landing now I think I'm going to land here is to refute, and the definition with refute I don't have it pulled up right now, but it's like a legal definition of being able to take it and put it on trial. So if you can be objective about.

Speaker 1:

A thought and let's say, your thought is one that I struggled with for a long time was is that I am a loser. I felt like a loser because I had failures in my life. I felt like a loser because I was like in comparison mode, looking at others and feeling like they were going. You know, their life looked better than mine and so, anyway, I was stuck with that thought. I didn't even know it until I started to do this work and in that there was a lot of things, other things tied around that with. I'm not smart enough, I'm not capable and I can't do different things that other people are doing. Again, now I can look back hindsight's 20-20, right Now I can look back and see comparison and really negative thinking like there's a couple of things that are in play here. But as I started to do that work and I put that thought, those thoughts, on trial and to refute them, and here's what I did in the honest assessments where I was able to say, oh okay, you know what. I have lost some things in my life, I have had some failures, and I understand where that thought process is coming from, but I am not a loser when I start to understand my identity in Jesus, I can line it up with that, and that doesn't make any sense because God doesn't make any losers. We're created in his image and so when I look at myself, with my spiritual inheritance, I can see that, nope, that's not true. But I can acknowledge that I've got these struggles in my life because of my experiences and mistakes, but it doesn't define me okay. So that idea of being able to re, challenge and reject thoughts that do not align with God's truth, to see it for what it is now.

Speaker 1:

Step three this is a really important part for you to build new pathways in your brain, and that's going to be to reframe what is the truth of who God says that I am. That's what I want to focus on who does God say that I am? And when we start to intentionally insert truth-based thoughts now I can in a in my conscious place where I've recognized it. Now I've refuted it. Now when my mind wants to go there again because I've conditioned my brain to think all of these negative thoughts right. And so when my brain naturally, because it's an automatic response at this point still early on in the game it goes to oh, I'm a failure, but now I have some awareness around it. Nope, that's a lie, I refute it. I have to go through this process. I'm teaching you this process because you'll have to go through this to build new thought processes. It's building new neural pathways.

Speaker 1:

This is all neuroscience and how your brain can reorganize itself. Your brain is so fascinating. God created you so magnificently but your brain will go to truth-based thoughts. So, in your reframe, replace things. You replace those negative thoughts with the truth of God's word. Again, I've got an affirmation, scripture-based declarations that you can have. You can go to the show notes here and grab it. And then here's the fourth step. The fourth and final step, and this is so important though. This step is how you're going to build the new thought process. But formation, what's rewarded in the brain is repeated. It's so interesting. So as you start to do this, you do start to feel like, oh my gosh, this is amazing because it starts to have your brain more positive and in alignment with the truth of who God says you are, which feels way better than lies from the enemy, and it's in this consistency of the repetition that rewires your brain. So here's the cool thing it only takes 63 to 67 days to build new neural pathways in your brain. So fascinating, that's not a long time. That's not a long time at all. You know, they used to say it takes 21 days to build a habit. That's not quite true, it takes a little longer.

Speaker 1:

So do the work by bringing that recognition to your thoughts, by learning to refute your thoughts. I mean, some of this is truly just you bringing awareness to what you're thinking, bringing awareness to your stinking thinking, bringing awareness to even how you think of others. Like this is really a powerful place to be able to, to line it up with. Is it? Are those the thoughts that you want for other people? Here's, here's the thing. Here's a good framework. Here's another framework you can give yourself.

Speaker 1:

The bible's full of frameworks, is philippians, for I think it's eight. But here's, here's what the scripture says. This is a good litmus test Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy. Think on these things. Those are the thoughts that we should be ruminating on. Can I get an amen? Oh, my gosh, that's what we need to be ruminating on, like I'm preaching to myself right now. So recognize, refute, replace and then repeat. Now here's the thing If you could set a like a little alarm on your on your phone, to do it several times a day, whether you carry a notebook around and you just go over the new thought that you want to create I like declarations of Bible truths, those are the thoughts that I work on, and if you could do it optimally would be seven times a day.

Speaker 1:

The more you do it, the more you're going to get your brain in order with who you already are and you can turn this thing around. Baby, I'm telling you it is so practical. It is. So I'll be honest with you. At first it feels cumbersome and a little clunky, but the more you get used to it, the easier it becomes. This is a process. I believe that if we will do it and we're consistent with it, we will be able to change the structure of our brains and the thought processes of our brains and we can go make more impact. I mean, ultimately it's going to get us unstuck and unlocked, where we can go out there and do the things that God's calling us to do with greater confidence, with greater joy. So I just want to encourage you. I know this seems so simple and I just kind of made it like it was simple. But when you do this, this is so empowering, so you get to choose your empowered thoughts according to who God says that you are, instead of staying stuck with that stinking thinking and I'm telling you what it's so powerful. Instead of staying stuck with that stinking thinking and I'm telling you what it's so powerful.

Speaker 1:

I shared this story before, but I had my sweet little dog, abby. What used to when she was a little puppy? She would carry her little, her poop, her toads. She would carry her turds in her mouth like not eat it, but she would just take it and she would put it on furniture and she would just sit with it. It was so gross. I'm giving you that visual in the story again, because when we stay stuck with stinking thinking, with negative thinking, with poor thinking, that is exactly what we're doing. We're literally sitting with crap, and ain't nobody got time for that? You ain't got time for that. Listen, life is short. Let's steward our thoughts, let's govern our thoughts well and move forward in God's kingdom and his plans and his purposes for our lives. Go make that impact we're called to make and help others. All right, I hope this was encouraging to you.

This little tidbit on retraining your brain, rewiring your brain In my coaching, when I coach clients one-on-one or in group coaching, in my high-performance coaching. This is some of the way that I do it, from that faith-fueled perspective. For us to have those unlocks for us to move forward.
